Of course, as you have probably noticed, there have been inconsistencies; just a few weekends ago, for example, our computers were down. And other times, I just have not made the deadline. At the moment I am in transition, assuming […]

Battle of Cool Spring, the Clarke County Historical Association and Br. James Sommers
18 July, 2014 marks the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Cool Spring; and, as most of our readers realize that battle was fought on the property on which Holy Cross Abbey now stands. Every year we remember those who died in that battle in the course of our communal prayers. Approaching this anniversary, we […]

I’m privileged to have a room here, sit in choir and refectory, and even participate in some of the communities business meetings. That’s more than I ever thought would be possible as a layperson and is a blessing I can’t fully […]
A Word from the Cistercian Fathers for July
Faith cannot be deceived. With power to understand invisible truths, faith does not know the poverty of the senses; it transcends even the limits of human reason, the capacity of nature, the bounds of experience. Why do you ask the eye to do what it is not equipped to do? And why does the hand […]
