It is with sadness (and yet also with joy born of faith), that we make known the sudden passing, (yesterday, August 24) of our Father Maurice Flood. After more than 64 years of monastic life, and one month short of his 86th birthday, Fr. Maurice could make his own those immortal words of Saint Paul: I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith. In recent years, Fr. Maurice experienced increased physical fragility—something he bore patiently and without complaint. His sudden death from heart failure was the final outcome of that fragility. As we commiserate with his family and pray for Fr. Maurice’s full entry into Eternal Life, may he proclaim with Saint Paul: From now on the crown of righteousness awaits me, which the Lord, the just judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but to all who have longed for his appearance.
The day/date of Fr. Maurice’s Funeral is still to be determined. Unfortunately, because of the present COVID-related restrictions, attendance at the Funeral Mass and Burial will be limited to the Monastic Community and the immediate family. The Funeral Mass will, however, be live-streamed. May the soul of Fr. Maurice, and the souls of all the Faithful Departed rest in Peace.
