Psychological and spiritual growth are integral to the manifestation of otherwise hidden inner potential and our becoming all that God created us to be. Unfortunately, our still unredeemed condition and our failure to become the unique persons God created us to be is like the lighted lamp placed under a bushel basket—referred to in today’s gospel. This is a reminder that sin is more than just a breaking of laws or commandments, but simultaneously disfigures our humanity so that all we truly are remains hidden, trapped, and undeveloped. And thus we have yet another motivation for repentance and conversion: Not only do we cease offending God, but we also unlock our still hidden potential and with our full development shine forth in glory to God in the fullness of who we now truly are.

Wonderful homily,
Reminds me of myself.
I believed I kept my light hidden under a basket because it was MY light that I was trying into shine. I became afraid of what people would see. ….
I needed to let God’s light shine through me..when i learned to do this, I was much less afraid because it was not my light.
