December 5, 2019 by Fr Joseph 3 Comments

This year the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is being transferred to Monday, December 9. Accordingly, Monday’s Holy Mass will be celebrated at 10.00 a.m. (and not at 7.30). The monks will be following the basic Sunday schedule.

My church is doing the same thing. Is it because Sunday is the second Sunday of Advent?

Exactly. The celebration of Sundays in Advent and their readings (and hopefully, the preaching) are a sort of Catechesis to prepare us for the celebration of the Lord’s Nativity. The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception detracts from none of that, but the Liturgy asks us to keep even Mary’s role in the context of the Lord’s coming.
