Faith is owed to God because he does not know how to deceive or how to be deceived. He is truth and wisdom. Truth does not deceive; wisdom is not deceived. Faith is demanded of us in two ways: first, in God’s Word to us; then in our words to him. We should have faith in the words of God, and thereby have a proper trust both in God and what relates to God, those things that he himself has deigned tp reveal in the sacred scriptures.
There is also a faith of obligation in our promises and vows offered to God. By this we are required to refuse impiety and worldly desires and serve God alone in faithful obedience.
