The Mass of the Lord’s Supper will be celebrated at 4:30 PM, Abbot Robert Barnes presiding and preaching.
After the Gospel and Homily, Fr. Robert will celebrate the Mandatum, that is, the Lord’s command to wash one another’s feet, the symbolic act of service to one another. St. John’s Gospel gives us the only account of this washing and, unlike the accounts of Matthew, Mark and Luke, it seems to replace or explain, the institution of the Eucharist. That is certainly a theme for any Christian’s considered meditation.
After Communion, the Blessed Sacrament will be transferred to the Altar of Repose where it will remain through the Good Friday service commemorating the Lord’s Passion, celebrated at 4:30 PM on Friday.
