A Paint Job Yields a Surprise!

November 29, 2012 by Kurt 7 Comments

As part of the work being done in and about the monastery the community decided a paint job was in order.  As you can see in these pictures we have begun the work and expect to finish the full painting of the monastery buildings in the Spring.

Take a look at these two pictures though…what is that over the front porch of the church?  You got it!  It’s a stained glass window that we forgot was there!  When we took off the shutters for the painting there was this stained glass window.  We’re now doing the research on it to find its origins to determine where it was made, installed etc.  You’ll be pleasantly surprised by our “new” window when you come to visit next.

And if you look at the second picture you will see the different colors-old and new.  We’re continuing the full painting of the monastery in the new ‘sand’ color which makes the monastic buildings stand out from the mansion and presents a peaceful and serene look to anyone approaching the church.

Add to this the infrastructure work we are doing throughout the monastic campus and you will see a renewed and reinvigorated monastery just waiting for you to come visit.

Mary do you know anything about the window? What did Br. Michael tell you? We’re dying of curiosity here!

Dear Kurt: It would be nice to get an update on the stained glass window. I have posted some pictures of it on twitter, Facebook and foursquare.
Also, none of the guests seem to know that they can enter the Mansion House; and go upstairs to see the Civil War exhibit. I am sure visitors would enjoy learning about the history. Can you post something on the website, so that retreatants and visitors to the gift shop will know they are allowed to go up the walk?

Traci thanks for the note. We have opened up the window from the church side finally and it’s gorgeous. Right now the community is trying to learn something about it and figure out what to do with it!

BTW, the civil war display is no longer in the mansion. It has been given to the Clarke County Museum for safe keeping.

      pax,
