One of the things we have begun to do is make more monastic/Cistercian/Benedictine resources available for the asking. You have already heard about our Rhythm of Monastic Prayer Based on the Divine Office which gives you a good idea how the Office works and how you can use your Bible to pray the Office with us. It also includes the Canticles and our Psalm schedule. You can receive a copy of this booklet by sending email to the Companions Office– companions@virginiatrappists.org
In the very near future (next week, I expect) we will also make available a reading list of Benedictine/Monastic/Cistercian books and web sites that the brothers find valuable. If you’ve been to the local bookstore lately (they do still exist, yes?) you have noted that the Religion section is one of the largest (second to cook books, I think…who reads all those cook books??). Well in that section is, shall we say, some good stuff, some ok stuff and some downright awful stuff. We thought, therefore, it would be helpful to compile our reading list of the good stuff for those interested in the monastic life and make it available to our friends. Your email will result in a return email with the list…BUT, not yet…it will be ready next week so keep an eye on our web site for the notice of its publication. Call or email if you have questions–540-955-4604 or companions@virginiatrappists.org
