Any complex as old as ours requires constant updating and renovation. It also, sometimes, requires even more than general maintenance to keep the buildings well taken care of.
We are at that point now and a committee of monks, including Fr. Joseph and Br. Christopher with the able assistance of a long time friend and donor Andrea Hattler Bramson, have completed a simple plan for taking care of some infrastructure issues (think the basics-windows, bathrooms, painting) and larger issues like painting the outside of the monastery, fixing gutters and providing a handicapped access ramp to the church.
We believe we can do most of the infrastructure work and painting/gutters for somewhere between $250,000 and $500,000 and as a result have begun to speak to some of our best friends and donors about helping us. To date, after only a short period of time, we have commitments of about $50,000 for this work.
The community has made a conscious decision NOT to embark on a full scale capital campaign or fund raising drive. Instead the plan for raising money will be managed by our Companion.
