Recent and upcoming additions to our newly renovated chapel include the new Icon of Our Lady the new altar, installed in September (you can follow the link for more details) and a bell tower, coming soon! Every Abbey church of our Order is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, Mother of God. This is reflected in […]
Fr. James’ Homily for Christ the King
Readings: Ezekiel 34:11-12, 15-17; 1 Corinthians 15:20-26,28; Matthew 25:31-46 Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison and not minister to your needs? This is the response of those rejected by the Son of Man. You see, they are do-gooders, they are not criminals. […]
Dom Joseph’s Homily for Thanksgiving Day, 23 November, 2017
Readings: Sirach 50:22-24; 1 Corinthians 1:3-9; Luke 17:11-19 Every year we dedicate this fourth Thursday in November to Thanksgiving and this might suggest to some that we neglect giving thanks for the rest of the year. And there is a sense in which this is true: ingratitude is something we are all guilty of and […]
Fr. Joseph’s Homily for the 32nd Sunday, Year A
Readings: Wisdom 6:12-16; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Matthew 25:1-13 After decades of praying the psalms, most monks know the psalms well enough to sing them by heart. However, singing psalms by heart can be problematic the moment we remind ourselves that we are singing them from memory. Almost inevitably we begin to stumble over the words […]

Monastic Kittens Now Available
That title may be a bit of an overstatement–I don’t believe the kittens are Roman Catholics and they are definitely not in monastic vows, but they are about six weeks old, weaned, eating solid food AND they are very available. They were born outside, near the kitchen and we–and their mother–are looking for new homes […]
Thirty-Second Sunday, Year A, 12 November, 2017

Fr. James’ Homily for the Thitry-First Sunday, Year A
Readings: Malachi 1:14-2:2, 8-10; 1 Thessalonians 2:7-9, 13; Matthew 23:1-12 Today’s Gospel may not be about priests but it’s certainly intimidating for a Roman Catholic priest to preach. I made sure I wore no tassels today. Our Reading from Malachi does address priests and I recognize the same symptoms of clericalism today. In the Gospel, […]
